Siegesbeckia is the aerial part of the plant Siegesbeckia orientalis L. from the Asteraceae family. Li Shizhen stated: "According to the rhyme book, people in Chu call pigs 'xi' and refer to the pungent and toxic smell of plants as 'xian'. This plant has a foul odor like a pig and a pungent, stinging taste, hence it is called 'xixian'." It is mainly produced in Hubei, Hunan, Jiangsu, and other regions. It can be harvested before flowering and during the flowering period in summer and autumn. It is used fresh after being chopped or processed by steaming with yellow wine.
